Luxembourg Income Study: 2010 Annual Summer Workshop

The Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) Summer Workshop is a one-week workshop designed to introduce researchers in the social sciences to comparative research in income distribution, employment and social policy using the LIS database. LIS welcomes applications from researchers with varying levels of knowledge and experience. The language of instruction is English.

The 2010 Annual LIS Summer Workshop will take place from 27th June until 3rd July 2010 at the campus Walferdange of the University of Luxembourg (route de Diekirch, Walferdange).

The Luxembourg Income Study has made comparable nearly 200 microdata sets that contain comprehensive measures of income, employment and household characteristics for nearly 40 countries.

The countries include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be fully trained to use the database independently.

Workshop faculty includes the LIS directors, Janet Gornick and Markus Jäntti, the LIS staff ( http://www.lisproject.org/introduction/staff.htm) and guest lecturers.

The workshop format includes a mix of lectures on comparative research, laboratory sessions and individual one-on-one advisory sessions. Attendees will also be introduced to the new Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS).
