Promotion of Scientific Culture
The FNR wishes to strengthen the links between science and society. In this regard, we focus on the development of a scientific culture and are thus approaching the population, and most importantly the young, more actively. Our objective is to create a profound understanding for the necessity of science and research as a guarantee for life quality and to fill youngsters with enthusiasm for scientific careers.
Mister Science and Media Presence
Articles on current affairs in research regularly appear in the Luxemburger Wort newspaper.
In addition, the FNR is notching up great success with its most recent creation, a young researcher who is also a comic figure: Mister Science. Mister Science has a radio programme on Eldoradio and RTL Radio, as well as a fan group on Facebook. He also does experiments every other week on the PISA Wëssensmagazin show on RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg. On www.misterscience.lu, he explains how people can become researchers.
Public Events
The FNR finances, organises and/or co-organises, in particular, the biennial Science Festival and Researchers’ Night. Touch, test and understand! This motto illustrates how researchers, both the large and small varieties, can discover a host of exciting phenomena at both events, which regularly attract countless visitors.
Trainings and Q&A Sessions with Researchers
The FNR is also working with schools and researchers themselves. In FNR workshops, researchers learn how to present their complex projects intelligibly to children, teenagers and to a lay public. With Chercheurs à l’école, researchers also go into the classroom to talk about their careers. In addition, the FNR is present at fairs such as the Foire de l’étudiant and meet@uni.lu.
Together with the Service National de la Jeunesse, the FNR also offers a training for young people to qualify as ‘ scientific animator’, e.g. to organise scientific activities in summer camps, in after-school care, etc.
Go for Science Network
Go for Science is the hub of a network inside and outside schools connecting science disseminators, where mediators from university, secondary schools, primary schools, after-school care, museums and non-profit associations meet to exchange ideas and to get ideas for study workshops, hands-on experiments and school project weeks.
ProScience Network
ProScience regroups all major public research actors, as well as the Ministry of Education and the Service National de la Jeunesse, in order to facilitate the organisation of promotion activities and to increase the research institutions’ support of promoting scientific culture.
