Summary of the Programme

Duration: 2006-2014
Budget: EUR 17,700,000
Calls: Ongoing
Projects funded so far: 16

Players involved in public research and international experts recognise the need for international cooperation, particularly with a view to giving research in Luxembourg a higher profile in other countries and to achieving a critical mass within research that cannot be sought if the research context is limited to Luxembourg.

The aims of the “Promotion of international cooperation (INTER)” programme are as follows:

  • to promote international scientific cooperation
  • to create synergies between research centres within and outside Luxembourg
  • to achieve a critical mass in certain fields
  • to take a better approach to the resolution of certain transnational issues
  • to increase the visibility and competitiveness of research in Luxembourg

Nine calls had their submission deadlines in 2009. Five projects started within the framework of calls launched in the ERA-Net MATERA, ERA-Net MNT, EDCTP programmes, as well as within the framework of the collaboration with CNRS. The FNR participates in the funding of these projects to an amount of over EUR 2.1 million.

Moreover, four projects selected from the ERA-Net MNT call and within the framework of collaborations with BELSPO, CNRS and DFG will start their activities in 2010 with an FNR funding of over EUR 660,000. Since the start of the INTER programme in 2006, 45 calls for proposals have been launched and the FNR has engaged over EUR 5.1 million out of the EUR 17.7 million which can be allocated by INTER until end 2014.

So far, the FNR has provided Luxembourg researchers with the possibility to participate in the following International funding opportunities, together with foreign researchers:
