Summary of the Programme
Duration: 2006-2014
Total Budget 2011-2013: EUR 12,000,000
Calls: Ongoing
Projects funded so far: 35
Players involved in public research and international experts recognise the need for international cooperation, particularly with a view to giving research in Luxembourg a higher profile in other countries and to achieving a critical mass within research that cannot be sought if the research context is limited to Luxembourg.
The aims of the “Promotion of international cooperation (INTER)” programme are as follows:
- to promote international scientific cooperation
- to create synergies between research centres within and outside Luxembourg
- to achieve a critical mass in certain fields
- to take a better approach to the resolution of certain transnational issues
- to increase the visibility and competitiveness of research in Luxembourg
45 project proposals were submitted in the INTER programme in 2010. 11 proposals have been retained for funding by the FNR, amounting to almost EUR 3 million awarded in grants. These projects cover different subjects, e.g. earth observation, biomedical research or ICT. Four of these FNR projects have received additional funding of EUR 500,000 from EU grant schemes.
The calls launched within the framework of the bilateral co-operations with Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft (DFG), Schweizerischer Nationalfonds (SNF) and Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaandern (FW O) have generated lively interest in the research community: 13 project proposals have been submitted in 2010.
Since the start of the INTER programme in 2006, 56 calls for proposals have been launched and the FNR has already
allocated over EUR 9 million.
So far, the FNR has provided Luxembourg researchers with the possibility to participate in the following International funding opportunities, together with foreign researchers:
- European Research Area Networks (ERA-NET)
- Materials World Network (MWN)
- Bilateral Agreement with CNRS,
- FranceThree
- Joint Programmes with BELSPO, BelgiumAmbient
- Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)
- Joint Programme European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)
- EUROCORES
- Scheme of the European Science Foundation (ESF)
- Cooperation Agreement with the FWO, Flanders
- European Collaborative Research projects (ECRP)
- Scheme in the Social Sciences (ESF)
- National Science Foundation (SNF), Switzerland
Lead-Agency Cooperation with DFG and SNF
From 2012 on, the procedure for submitting bi-lateral proposals to the FNR within the DFG and SNF cooperations will be integrated in CORE. To read more, please click here.
