The FNR is pleased to inform that the application process for the PayPal-FNR PEARL Chair in Fintech at the University of Luxembourg is open. The closing date for applications is 09:00 CET on Wednesday, 24 May 2017.

The Chair has an initial duration of 5 years and will be jointly supported by PayPal and the FNR, and hosted at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg. The goal of this Chair is to demystify digital technology and rethink connections across regulators, industries and users.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding internationally recognised researcher in the field of data (computer science/engineering), risk, innovation and/or financial services. In addition to scientific standing, s/he will be motivated by the inter-disciplinary approach of this Chair and have the ability to engage credibly and creatively with both academic and non-academic stakeholders, and to create socio-economic impact from research findings.

Research should focus on the development and use of innovative digital technologies which can impact financial market regulation and policy. Research activities should also be technical in nature building on the characteristics of FinTech and addressing RegTech or compliance through IT solutions thereby advancing the technological transformation of financial services regulation.

This Chair will be supported by PayPal and by the PEARL programme of the FNR, which aims at recruiting outstanding scientists in strategically important areas to develop and strengthen Luxembourg’s national research priorities. The Chair will benefit from a start-up package for five years with a financial contribution of approximately €5 million, excluding overheads.

The Chair will play a pivotal role in linking technical research and developments with legal and regulatory innovations and their financial aspects, whilst also reaching out to key stakeholders in government (ministries, regulators, government-run start-up incubators) and to companies in the financial service sector.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver to assist the Selection Committee. Perrett Laver may be contacted for informal enquiries and questions on or +31202404379.
