The Lecture Series in Cancer Research offers high profile and topical lectures in different themes of cancer biology to the cancer research community in Luxembourg. High level and acclaimed cancer researchers from various countries were invited to address specific themes of interest. This third Lecture Series was tightly connected to the program of the CANBIO DTU (also kindly funded by FNR). The CANBIO program was conceived to provide high quality training in cancer research to 18 PhD students, focusing on tumor escape mechanisms and addressing consequent clinical problems. As such, this round of lectures covered the topics of molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and recurrence, therapeutic applications in pre-clinical disease models, immunotherapies and development of computational models to enable innovative translational research. Like CANBIO, this Lecture Series was a joint initiative of the LIH and the Life Sciences Research Unit of the University of Luxembourg; lecturers were suggested by professors and senior researchers from both institutions. The event was open to all the Luxembourgish scientific community, and provided the audience the opportunity to interact with the speakers. The lectures were followed by an informal workshop where young researchers had the opportunity to discuss with the invited speakers in an informal way about their research topics and career paths. This was followed by a dinner with senior researchers to enable informal exchange and networking. This Lecture Series has established itself as a regular high quality scientific event bringing together the cancer research community in Luxembourg.
