Submitted Abstract

The general objective of this project is to achieve major advances in the understanding andcharacterization of the interactions between nanostructured materials and new functional surfacesobtained by plasma polymerization or wet chemical approaches. Using a multidisciplinary approachcombining numerical simulations, chemistry, biology, physics and mechanics, several new aspects in theinteraction between modified substrate surfaces and the functionality of “reversible adhesion” will beinvestigated to determine the causative effects that lead to a robust and reversible adhesion. Reversibleadhesion between metal and polymer will be studied with respect to the service life of the product.To achieve the objectives, the project will be built around 4 research work-packages.3 WPs are dedicated to the development of new surfaces (experimental chemical plasma surfacemodification, theory based modeling, experimental nanotexturing of surfaces). These WPs are stronglyinterrelated.1 WP is dedicated to the elaboration of new reversible adhesive solutions with, as first objective,reversible adhesion with short service life (up to 5 cycles) and, as second objective, reversible adhesionwith long service life.
