You will first support our day-to-day reporting and data needs during a maternity leave (approx. 30–50% workload from Nov 2025 to Mar 2026) and then shift your focus fully to exploring and prototyping impactful AI tools tailored to a small, strategically positioned public research funding organisation.

Key responsibilities
Operational Data Support (Nov 2025–Mar 2026 30-50%)
This phase supports continuity in core reporting and monitoring, offering a valuable onboarding opportunity into our data infrastructure and workflows.
Tasks include:
- Running and maintaining existing Python scripts for monitoring and reporting
- Handling internal and external data requests
- Performing light data curation and enrichment
- Maintaining and updating curated outputs and filters in Power BI dashboards
- Supporting survey operations: preparing contact batches, triggering campaigns, monitoring responses
AI Tool Prototyping & Automation (Nov 2025–Mar 2026 30-50%; + full-time from April 2026)
You will lead the exploration, prototyping, and contextualisation of automation and AI use cases tailored to the scale and needs of a small public research funding agency.
Your objectives will include:
- Assessing infrastructure and data readiness to identify viable opportunities for AI/automation
- Prototyping practical, low-risk, high-value tools, aligned with FNR’s needs
- Monitoring developments across other funding agencies to identify transferable innovations and good practices
- Recommending and implementing fit-for-purpose solutions that reflect FNR’s commitment to responsible, human-in-the-loop AI
- Operating independently to explore, test, and recommend new tools or approaches
- Planning outsourcing where it adds value or accelerates progress
Your profile
Essential:
- Holder of a master’s degree (bac+5)
- Proficiency in Python and relevant data science/AI frameworks
- Experience with or exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud / Vertex AI, Azure) or big data tools (e.g., Spark, BigQuery, Databricks)
- Experience with machine learning and NLP, and LLM integration (e.g., prompt engineering, embeddings)
- Familiarity with data engineering tools (e.g., SQL, APIs, pipelines)
- Understanding of AI deployment in small organisations (e.g., Docker, CI/CD, Git)
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, Power BI)
- Awareness of ethical AI, bias mitigation, and GDPR/data privacy compliance
Desirable (Nice to Have):
- Familiarity with research data sources: Dimensions, ORCID, and GRID/ROR IDs
- Experience in R&D foresight, science of science, or policy evaluation
- Front-end or full-stack development for internal tool building
- Power BI development skills
